Worth The Wait

DISCLAIMER: We can laugh about this.

Back in 2007, and back when Myspace was vital to our existence, I received a message from an old high school friend, Meghan Grodeon. It went a little something like this:

“Hi girlfriend! It’s been forever since we last chatted, but I wanted to tell you that I’m a big fan of your photography, and I will definitely be contacting you soonish to shoot my wedding. I’m not engaged yet, but I have a slight suspicion I will be soon. Just a head’s up. :) I hope everything is good in your world, love and miss you!”

I completely forgot all about our Myspace exchange until Meghan mentioned it, the day of her actual wedding:

“Remember that one time I messaged you, oh, in like, 2007 to shoot my wedding because I thought Benny was going to pop the question? Remember that one time it’s 2011? He’s cute.”

It is actually cute. And THEY are actually really cute.

Seeing Meghan years later is a lot like seeing Meghan years prior. She is still just as outgoing and funny as she was in high school (we sat next to each other in class more than should have been allowed) and she is just as beautiful and comfortable in her own skin as she used to be. She’s never anything but herself, and makes a deliberate attempt to be nothing but considerate and genuine and compassionate to those around her. And she can hug like no other.

Hearing Benny come up with a a plethora of different words that all essentially mean, “beautiful” every time he looked at Meghan was enough to make my assistant and I deep sigh and high kick at the same time. After spending the day with him, and after he literally went out of his way (three separate times) to thank me for coming and to tell me how much it all meant to Meghan, made me just know that she found someone as equally as considerate and genuine as herself. It makes the whole, 2007 Myspace fakeout make sense now- getting married wasn’t as much of a priority to them as just being in love, building a foundation, and living in that happiness was. Goes to show us (me) that you can only plan so much.

Congrats to a truly beautiful couple, from the inside out.

*Special shout out to my high kick partner in crime, Shannon Harrison from Jack & Ruby Studios for owning this wedding with me and for truly freaking out with me over the cuteness of this couple.

Okay, so I always love reading what you write, but tonight I should be doing my own editing, not being distracted by every photographer I am absolutely in love with, work. ;D (and wishing you lived near me so I can pick up on your talents, haha) But after looking at all these pictures, tearing up to a few and noticing the bride looked so darn beautiful and very familiar…I went back to read all you wrote. It is Meghan! She is still so darn beautiful! Awesome job, D – you rock my socks off.
